Dynamic Cupping vs. Static Cupping

Image
Gliding cups and stationary cups are two common techniques in cupping therapy, and they create very different effects in the body. Gliding Cups (Dynamic Cupping) How it works: Oil or lotion is applied, and the cups are moved across the skin while suction is maintained. Benefits: Increases circulation over a larger area Helps warm up tissues (great before deeper work) Promotes lymphatic drainage Reduces muscle tension without intense marking Feels more like a massage—clients often find it relaxing Best for: Large muscle groups (back, quads, hamstrings) Clients new to cupping Pre-event or general wellness sessions Those who prefer less intense marks Stationary Cups (Static Cupping) How it works: Cups are placed on specific points and left in place for several minutes. Benefits: Targets deep muscle knots and trigger points Helps break up adhesions and stagnation Can provide more intense decompression of tissue Often produces visible marks (therapeutic response, not bruising) Best fo...

How to Balance Exercise During the Holidays

Image
Balancing exercise during the holidays can be tricky — schedules get packed, routines get disrupted, and temptations multiply — but it’s absolutely possible (and even enjoyable) to stay active without stressing about it. Here are some practical ways to strike that balance: 1. Set Realistic Goals Adjust your expectations:  Instead of aiming for long workouts, commit to shorter, consistent sessions (like 20–30 minutes). Focus on maintaining, not maximizing:  Your goal is to stay active and feel good — not necessarily to hit personal records. 2. Schedule It (But Stay Flexible) Plan your workouts  around your events — mornings often work best before the day fills up. Be flexible:  If plans change, swap in a walk, stretch, or quick bodyweight circuit instead of skipping movement entirely. 3. Keep It Short and Efficient When time is tight, prioritize workouts that deliver results quickly: HIIT (High-Intensity Interval Training):  15–20 minutes of alternating ef...

Incorporating Cardio Into Your Pilates Session

Image
Incorporating cardio into Pilates is a great way to boost your heart rate, improve endurance, and enhance overall fitness. Traditional Pilates focuses on strength, flexibility, and controlled movement, but adding some cardio elements can make the workout more dynamic. Here are a few ways to blend the two: 1.  Pilates with Jumping (Reformer Pilates) Reformer Pilates  machines often come with a jumpboard attachment, allowing you to add jumping exercises. Jumping on the Reformer engages your muscles while providing an excellent cardiovascular workout. Moves like jump squats or plyometric jumps can increase the intensity. 2.  Circuit Training Combine Pilates and Cardio Circuits : Create a circuit with Pilates exercises for strength (like the  Hundred ,  Plank , or  Roll-Up ) followed by high-intensity cardio bursts (like jumping jacks, mountain climbers, or burpees) to get your heart rate up. Alternate between the two for an effective workout. 3.  P...

Essential Oils : Oils like lavender, chamomile, and bergamot are commonly used in aromatherapy to relieve stress, reduce anxiety, and improve overall mood. They can also help promote a sense of emotional balance. 2.  Improved Focus & Mental Clarity Incense : Incense like sandalwood, frankincense, and rosemary has been traditionally used in meditation practices because it is believed to help clear the min...

Core Reason N.F.L. Players Love Pilates: It Strengthens Body and Soul

Image
“That Pilates be getting me right,”  shouted  Dexter Lawrence to teammate  Leonard Williams . “For real?” Wiliams responded in high-pitched disbelief. Is the 6-foot-4, 340-pound All-Pro QB hunter seriously contorting his body in classes that evolved into a workout favored by New York City ballerinas? “A lot of core work so that helps with my lower back,” Lawrence says. “Just flexibility and strengthening different areas.” You may laugh, but  NFL  players of all shapes and sizes will do whatever it takes to be the best. The NFL has a long history of players using ballet and other forms of dance to differentiate their workouts from what goes on in the weight room and on the football field. Pilates, which players have utilized for years now, is gaining devoted practitioners in part because of an explosion of social media video posts featuring their sweating and shaking workouts. “I voluntarily go to go shake like a leaf and hold myself in these extremely cha...

How to Incorporate Cardio into your Pilates Routine

Image
Incorporating cardio into Pilates can enhance the overall workout by improving cardiovascular health, increasing calorie burn, and adding variety to the routine. Here are some ways to blend cardio with Pilates: High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) Combine Intervals : Alternate between high-intensity cardio exercises (like jumping jacks, high knees, or burpees) and traditional Pilates moves. For example, perform 30 seconds of mountain climbers followed by a minute of Pilates leg circles. Tabata Style : Implement the Tabata protocol by performing 20 seconds of intense cardio followed by 10 seconds of rest, then transitioning into a Pilates exercise for the next interval. Dynamic Pilates Movements Add Plyometrics : Include exercises that involve jumping or explosive movements, such as Pilates jump board exercises or plyometric lunges. Faster Transitions : Move quickly from one Pilates exercise to another to keep the heart rate elevated. Incorporate Cardio Equi...

Healthy Dessert Options/Alternatives

Image
There are plenty of healthy dessert options and alternatives that can satisfy your sweet tooth without compromising your health. Fruit Salad, a mix of fresh seasonal fruits can be delicious and naturally sweet. You can drizzle a little honey or a sprinkle of cinnamon for added flavor.  Greek Yogurt with Honey and Nuts is also a great choice! Greek yogurt is high in protein and lower in sugar compared to regular yogurt. Add a drizzle of honey and some nuts or fresh berries for crunch and sweetness.      Chia Seed Pudding is another healthy dessert option that helps satisfy that sweet tooth. Chia seeds soaked in almond milk or coconut milk, mixed with a little honey or maple syrup, and topped with fruits or nuts can make a nutritious and satisfying dessert.  Frozen Banana Bites for the hotter days. Dip banana slices in dark chocolate (which has antioxidants) and freeze them. They make for a cool, sweet treat, especially grea...

Benefit of Stretching for You, the Golfer

Image
By The Athletic Room Team  Hey golf lovers, if you like to play golf and want to add an average of 13yds to every swing while improving accuracy by more than 23% more then you are at the right place.   Golf seems straightforward, but as most of us golfers know, to become a good golfer while remaining injury free is not easy.  The golf swing is a strange, foreign movement that requires proper flexibility for the body to stay on a correct swing plane. A 2015 study, which I have summarized below, shows the effects of stretching on the Amateur Golf Swing.  Click here to read the full study . According to the study, a 12-week golf specific stretch program showed statistical changes on golfer’s performance. Golfer’s in the study experienced an average improvement of 13yds in driving distance and 23% increase in accuracy as compared to 4yds and a 3% in the control group. Ball speed after impact also increased in the group who routinely stretched: 7% as compared to 3%...
