The Pilates-Massage Connection

At Jupiter Massage & Pilates many clients choose to combine their massage therapy sessions with Pilates training and are experiencing the vast benefits that come from
integrating the two disciplines to achieve a stronger, more relaxed and balanced body.

Pilates is a complete mind-body method of physical conditioning that was developed by Joseph Pilates. It aims to build strength and flexibility, reduce stress, improve posture and relieve chronic pain through a focus on working the core muscles of the body including the abdominal muscles, lower back, hips and gluteals. Strengthening these muscles produces a more solid foundation from which all movements of the body can be made thus lowering the risk of injury from all types of physical activity from sports to everyday actions like bending over.

Pilates and massage offer many similar benefits. Both promote better circulation which helps supply muscles, bones and internal organs with the oxygen and nutrients they need to function properly. Each discipline also promotes greater flexibility and range of motion, and reduces muscle tension and stiffness. Having stronger, more flexible muscles also improves balance and helps restore the body to its proper alignment.

Many of our clients at Jupiter Massage & Pilates find that scheduling back-to-back Pilates and massage sessions helps them break their patterns of chronic pain. Pilates helps them understand how to use their bodies to ease constriction in particular muscles or muscle groups while the massage then flushes away residual tension and any lactic acid built up during the workout using deep tissue and Swedish massage techniques.

Integrate a regular routine of Pilates and massage into your weekly schedule and experience the benefits for yourself!
