Pilates & Massage, the Golf Edition

Living in South Florida, we are accustomed to the golf lifestyle. Many clients visit us for pain and soreness from playing, or to improve their golf game. There are numerous techniques to reduce muscle tension and aid in proper follow-thru. As with any movements or exercises, stretches can be an excellent tool for increasing flexibility and rotation.

By combining Pilates exercises with massage therapy, the client is well equipped for ultimate performance. Pilates helps to strengthen the core muscles and increase flexibility in the hips and shoulders. There are specific movements that focus on the areas used for a strong swing and follow-thru. By targeting these areas, the client becomes more body conscious, which helps to maintain proper form.

Once the client has exercised the muscles, a massage therapist can work to alleviate any soreness experienced. Vigorous massages are designed to increase blood flow, break up adhesions and reduce rigidity in the muscles, tendons, and ligaments. Although many enjoy a deep tissue massage, receiving one directly before playing would not be advantageous. Generally, it is wise to have one at least 48 hours in advance of your golf game. Many golfers experience pain in the neck from improper posture, or soreness in the lower back and shoulder blades. Wrists can also become sore from an improper grip. All of these areas can easily be worked on by one of our many talented massage therapists by use of hot stones, reflexology, or deep tissue. It is important to continue the stretching exercises to keep the body fluid and loose while playing.

Visit us today to improve your golf game with Pilates, or to recover with a healing massage.
